  1. During the run up to the brexit referendum, the UK people were told that once triggered the article 50 application could not be withdrawn. The UK still voted to leave and not having the option to withdraw article 50 made the debate in the UK so much simpler. It was the ECJ that complicated the debate by ruling that the UK could with withdraw its application. It would be very helpful if the option to remain is taken off the table. It appears that the EU is responding to the risk of a second UK referendum by changing its rules again. As the prospect of the UK remains looks more likely, the issue of punishing the UK for having the temerity to vote to leave is being suggested. This again simplifies the debate in the UK, making a second referendum less likely. Let's go back to article 50 cannot be revoked and the UK will leave with a no deal brexit, so much simpler, the snag is the EU wants its cake and eat it.
