The eu won't challenge russian attempts to close an international trade route,because they can't it was the eu that triggered the russian invasion of Ukraine, by inviting Ukraine to join the EU, threatening Russian access to Crimea. If any one is stirring Putin to war its the EU. As always its left to the UK to minimise the damage, by maintaining access to international waters.
