This will have the EU and the republic quaking in their boots. Reunification was always a fervent wish, for the future, long into the future, very long into the future. The rest of the UK will be looking forward to the windfall that it will receive, and will sigh with relief, glad that's over.

@billycaspersghost7528 northern Ireland is in a unique position, receiving the benefits of EU membership without the significant pain. EU policy towards NI is more about punishing the UK for brexit, rather than reunification of Ireland. For the the EU, the last thing the EU will want is a reunified Ireland, with a large dissident unionist population, apart from anything else it will let the UK government off the hook and provide it with a political and financial windfall. It will use the UK loss of territory as proof of brexit failure, but this will be a pyrrhic Victory, given the benefits that the rest of the UK will receive. The UK might use the example of it leaving the EU as a reference for claiming a divorce settlement from the EU and the republic. Those in Ireland may yet have reason to regret joining the republic, as it comes with default EU membership. The will be replacing weak rule from London, with a much stronger rule from Brussels.
