It appears that Russia have taking a page out of the North Korean (look at me or else) PlayBook. Whatever Putin claims this will start a new co!d war. The US Hawks will insist that the US updates its weapon systems to match that of Russia. The US will also want to update its ICBM defence system. Trump will not be able to resist the temptation to spend money on new weapons, Russia has provided the ideal excuse. Putin's announcement may have shown a blind spot in US spy services, if they did not know in advance about these new Russia weapons, assuming they really exist. This is also an embarrassment for the us military, given the far greater US expenditure on weapon systems. Putin weapons development seems far more efficient, getting more bang for his ruble. Is Russia weapon science more advanced than the US?

NSANGOU CHOUAIBOU the F35 is a jack of all trades and master of none. The problem with any joint development with the US, is that the US wants to keep the good bits to itself. It certainly does not want to develop a weapon that is better than others in it's arsenal. Joint developments also suffer from political symbolism and contractor greed. In the case of the F35 it was used to demonstrate the UK/US special relationship. They also suffer from specification creep in an attempt to meet the needs of those involved, with the needs of the US being put ahead of the other parties involved. In this case the UK is forced to take it or leave it or the us will abandon the project. The UK had a similar problem with attack helicopter, where the us was very reluctant to share the important all weather digital systems and the software that made it work. If there is one thing the UK could learn from Russia is that high tech projects can be done with a fraction of the US budget, but the UK has followed the US example!e and privatised its R&D.
