Kaiser Fuher you are correct, the more the EU ignores the objections of the citizens the more likely they will turn to the extreme nationalist. I can argue than there is a form of benign nationalism, where nation states return to their roots in terms of trading relationships. Many of the problems of the world can be traced to globalisation, which is being advanced because it makes a few very very rich and powerful, but is a disaster for the majority of people. If you want stable and prosperous societies it is necessary for states to be as self sufficient as possible, making and growing most of what they need and only trading for that which geography and climate has denied them. This is the only way to ensure full and productive employment of their population. Globalisation centralises production in low wage economies were environmental protection is a minimum. It then exports the products made to the historical wealthy but indolent rich states. The result the rich get poorer and fall into a debt spiral, the poor get slightly richer and the facilitators cream off the wealth of the transaction and become the super rich. The planet's environment is destroyed in the process. Like a fractal structure, the internals of the EU mirror globalisation in microcosm. Only independent nation states can halt this move to damaging globalisation. From a philosophical point of view, the concentration of production in only a few places is a bad idea, because it makes the global environment less resilient to external shocks. It also stifles innovation as few nations are working in parallel on the same technical problems.

Biciclind cu Axel I think many are waiting to see how the UK is treated by the EU and how well it does outside the EU. The way the EU is trying to shackle the UK government post brexit, indicates how much the eurocrates fear that brexit may be a success. They are treading a fine line between punishing the UK for having the temerity to leave and the risk of putting off potential new members who may now see the EU as the trap it undoubtedly is. Far from being concerned about the future of the UK outside the EU, it might be worth considering the future of the states that remain. It is clear that federal control will increase and democracy becomes increasingly meaningless. All states will be subsumed into a mono culture designed to make money for big business. The political elite will rule every part of a citizens life from cradle to grave. The gap between the super rich few and the rest will increase, and everyone will be told they live in the best place, and everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds.

I don't see how the EU will allow a far right Austria to remain within the EU. If it does pressure is mounting to remove the freedom of movement.

Biciclind cu Axel many countries would welcome??? I note you do not say many citizens would welcome....it is not only the ultra right that think an EU super state is a bad idea. Only the deluded who believe EU propaganda think it is a good idea, and maybe the elites who will become rich and powerful from its formation. It will be no different from the US or any of the other big power blocks. Each have a rich super class at the expense of the rest of the population. The EU project was conceived by bankers for the benefit of bankers. It is a building block in a globalisation system, with wealth sloshing about between the poor and the rich with the facilitators sequestration the greater part of it. Increasing the gap between the super rich and the rest. It is an Orwellian nightmare in the making.

Biciclind cu Axel all politicians are corrupt to some degree, most you can tell when they are lying because their lips move. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, which is why it is unwise to give more power to federal politicians. The difference between UK politicians and EU politicians is that the former can be removed by an election. The latter and many of the eurocrates have a job for life. Certainly the commissioner are not elected by the people and they set the policies that the EU parliament rubber stamp. One of the tricks of the EU is to dilute democracy simply by numbers and a structure that creates a hierarchy of votes with the people at the bottom. Elect someone who will elect someone who will select some one. By the time you reach the top, the original reason for voting is lost. The commissioners constrain what the subjects on which the people have a say. This ensures criticism of the system is all but eliminated. This level of control is likely to lead to a civil war at some stage. It was once said that the only difference between the suppression of opposition in the former USSR and the UK is that in the former dissidents are shot, in the latter they are just ignored. It will be interesting to see how the EU deals with dissidents. I suspect it will start with the latter and move rapidly to the former.

Biciclind cu Axel what ever, but it is our choice and we should not have to pay the EU for the privilege of making it. Particularly as we have always been net contributors to this dysfunctional organisation. Membership has given the UK no benefits at all. We have paid for the privilege of importing more than we export to the EU. The only reason this has gone on for so long is because a few powerful people are making lots of money out of this situation.

Kaiser Fuher if news channels like this are to be believed, the EU has considerable internal troubles, with revolts by a number of states and a power struggle between Italy, France and Germany. I consider the phase 1 brexit agreement a very bad deal for the UK and hope Mrs May allows Mr Davis to play hard ball. There is a good chance that the UK will still warm away. The French are pushing for the EU super state, effectively run by them and paid for by the Germans. If they get their way, the other states will discover they have little say and will told what they can do. The real problem is that internet news is not very reliable with a great deal of propaganda intended to influence public opinion. No one can be trusted to tell the truth. The BBC is bias and uses editorial comment and selection of which reports it airs to influence UK opinion.

Biciclind cu Axel oh yes, and everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds. I think I could get a similar answer from those living in North Korea. It is true the news is bias, it is difficult to tell in which direction, however it is only necessary to examine the system of government to know than something is rotten in the state of the EU.
