  1. The cynic must be highly suspicious of macron's altruism. Watch Macron involve the EU. This is opportunistic French empire building. The politics is complicated, but it is an exercise to take advantage of the political vacuum left by the US unreliable behaviour in Afghanistan. The French won't want to support Iraq alone, it will seek to involve the other EU member states, as this furthers the French goal for an independent EU military, lead by the French and supported by the french military industrial complex. What Macron is saying with this trip, is that the US cannot be counted upon as an ally, but France can. Macron must be really concerned that the west risks being excluded from middle Eastern politics, handing the influence to the Chinese and Russians. No doubt, he is also attempting to ensure that there is not another wave of migrants trying to enter europe, and stop further terror attacks in the EU, and France in particular. The less cynical optimist, might think that Macron is trying to show Biden where the US went wrong, and is actually attempting true stable state building.
