The translation must be wrong, judging by Russia's actions, it should have said we are going to militarise our economy. That is evident by the military activity around the article circle, and the military movements in Europe. If the west does not wake up soon and recognise the threats, it risked being torn apart by those two rabid dogs, Russia and China, as they fight over their meal.

@irinam.87 Maybe putin likes value for money or maybe he lies about his military budget. I suggest you read the slightly earlier Euronews report about the expansion of the russian attic base, or the ample news reports on the new weapon systems, hypersonic missiles and atomic torpedoes. These reports are not consistent with a reduced military budget, nor is the recent massive russian military "exercises" on the Ukrainian border.

@irinam.87 Do they really have a choice but to work for less money. Its not as if russian has less corruption than the US, it's just different people are involved. They work not to protect their country, but to protect the wealth of the corrupt.

@proselytizingorthodoxpente8304 I agree, it is a plutocracy, run like the Mafia for the benefit of super rich few. It is a model that is followed by a number of the world biggest economies, including the US and China. Its roots can be traced to globalisation, that has allowed the development of a super rich elite who no longer have any real allegiance to any country, and who now posses the majority of the worlds wealth. I do think putin has a long tern political agenda of rebuilding the sphere of influence of the former USSR. I suspect it is a matter of pride for this former KGB officer, resulting from the fall and humiliation of the former Soviet Union. Putin never accepted that the west (the US ) won the cold war, they just one a battle in the cold war. I suspect that president Macron of France has a similar mind set. In his case he wants to use the EU as a proxy French empire. Both have a Napoleon complex resulting from an historic humiliation of their country. It is ironic that a russian leader might be suffering from a character trait linked to Napoleon.

@irinam.87 I don't think there is the option to leave and sell russian secrets, given that putin will send out his assassins to ensure any disloyalty is rewarded by a violet and untimely death.

@irinam.87 No I think neither the US or the UK have any designs on Russia, but Putin needs a western enemy to frighten his own people into compliance. I think Putin has an expansionist plan to recover territory lost by the former Soviet Union. There is a difference between Putinphobia and russianphobia. Is Putin the new Russian tsar or just a Russian mafia don.

@irinam.87 It is not clear to whom you refer. There is no evidence that the us or the uk have any interest in russia, other than confining its expansionist ambitions. There is amp!e evidence of Putin's criminal murderous activity. Putin himself has admitted as much in interviews, and has certainly admitted to the development of Russia's aggressive military capability. I think it is you who are naive in attributing his activity to a wish to protect the russian people, his only concern is protecting his position and wealth. He has followed the path of all dictators by effectively making himself leader for life, the Chinese leader has done the same.

@irinam.87 You can place your trust where you like, its not my fault if you elect to place your trust in an evil dictator with responsibility for state sponsored murder. I would mean nation his proclivity for filling his pockets at the expense of the russian people, but that is a trait he shares with many politicians and rulers around the world. While you can elect to trust him, you have no power to elect him, given that he has effectively made himself leader for life, the new tsar of all the Russians. So where you place your trust is completely irrelevant.

@irinam.87 You clearly do, or you would not have bothered to reply. Fortunately for me, he is not my president, he is yours. I am willing to bet he does not care about your opinion either, and should you decide to actively not support him, you will quickly discover how he treats opposition, so you really do not have any choice.

@irinam.87 Are you suggesting that Putin is not a dictator who uses lethal force to eliminate any opposition. Has he not made himself ruler for life? You live in a fantasy world if you think you live in a democracy.

@irinam.87 Still trying to defend the indefensible. As a KGB officer, Putin is a state trained killer. The assassination attempts of opposition figures who fled to the west, using WMD, prove this, since either he is not in control, or he authorised such actions.
