Trump needs to look closer to home to find out who has been raising the US piggy bank. It is republican super rich elite who have embraced the globalist philosophy and thus have no real loyalty to the US who have exported US industry's offshore. They have optimistically exported US industry to low wage countries that are not impeded by environmental protection laws inorder to increase their personal wealth. Ironically, part of Trump's solution is to adopt low wages in the US and repeal US environmental protection laws in a race to the bottom. The real problem is that international trade rules do not allow states to use trade tariffs to protect their home markets and level a trading playing field that is biased in favour of exploiting poorer countries or those who have dictators who can suppress workers rights and environmental protection laws. No tariffs, no subsidies and no barriers will not work, because it will result in a race to the lowest common denominator. The US cannot compete with the likes of China and India, using the trade rules that Trump proposes. The only way this would work would be US workers having the same rights and social conditions as Chinese and indian workers.

FordFracture I hope you are writing metaphorically. I do not advocate consigning anyone to an Inferno, but a long period in jail plus confiscation of assets should suffice. The question is what crime have they commited to justify the sentence, clearly a new law is required. In the US it is a crime to steal a small amount of money, steal billions and it is likely the law will back your actions. Betray your country by making money closing down us industry and you are a capitalist, a hero of the free market. The globalisation has provide the opportunity and the means to make money by destroying the countries industry.

I gotta poop again I think you are right, there is little to distinguish between the super rich elite of either the democratics or the republicans, it is just the republicans turn to fill their pockets at the expensive of the general public. Having said that, it is the republicans who are more destructive of the environment. Anything to make money. Wealth tricky down may once have worked to some degree, when the rich elite identified with their country of origin and made money largely within its boundaries. In today's world, the global elite consider the whole world as theirs for exploitation. This means their country of origin has no meaning to them and is fair game from which to make money. The wealth of the US is an illusion, as it is based on ever increasing debt, backed by the printing of money in the form of treasury bonds, US IOUs. The rich elite exploite this apparent wealth by manufacturing products in poor countries and sell them to the increasingly independent us citizens who want to maintain their wealthy life style. It is the facilitators of this trade who make the money, as the debt is laundered into real money by the transaction. As you may have guessed, it is the super rich elite that facilitate this trade.

Jonatan D buying the cheapest is not always the best policy. No one factors in the total cost of putting out of business the local producers. The concept of allies is difficult in the 21 century. Politics produces strange bed fellows. The EU has this problem with a number of other countries, particular Russia. The US has a similar problem with China. In the case of the EU and Russia, Russia is only considered an ally where gas supply is concerned. Many countries are forced to do deals and befriend countries they would like to keep at arm's length. There is a level of hypocrisy in these international relationships. All I think understand that each is working in its own self interest. One exception seems to be the UK, that behaves like a thick upper crust Twit. It has a tendency to sign agreements that the UK tax payer come to regret. It must be assumed that many of these agreements benefit a small clique with a vested interest.
