How long before all EU school children are required to pledge allegiance to the United States of Europe and its glorious president? Over time the French flag will disappear, as it will only represent a region within the EU. The model is of course the USA.

@uhohhotdog after 200 years, there are still those who owe their allegiance to the state rather than the federal government. What chance has the EU of fostering loyalty in such a short time. Make no mistake the unction of the flags is to indoctrinate loyalty to the fledgling super state. It is said the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. I am willing to bet there are/ will be compulsory school books that extol the virtues of the EU.

@sergioraya4388 all indications to the contrary. Surely you don't mean your lands, I think it is collectively their land now. The EU is only interested in a peaceful and placid work force. It is happy to use the interests of the many to out weight those of the few. Or should that be the tyranny of the many to oppress the few.

@americandefender6884 do you deny the federal ambitions of the EU project and the desire among some for ever closer Union. The EU has a president, ambassadors, an anthem, a spece program and soon a military, all this will be paid for with an EU income tax. The project is slowly and inexorably creeping forward. It hides when it becomes unpopularly visible, but it never really goes away.

@sergioraya4388 you just admitted it is not yet a country, giving a lie to the notion that the final destination for the EU is not a federal super state. As it grows bigger the few that it will be able to persecution will grow in number. Sooner or later whole states will be expendable in the interests of the many.

@sergioraya4388 you are making two errors, first you assume that every one will want to join at some stage. Second you are assuming that all this can happen in some distant future. Neither is true. There is no reason to expect those who do not want to join to conform to the rules of those that do i.e the rules of the super state. The EU has already adopted a common currency without the financial discipline that comes from federal government control of other parts of the economy, such as taxation. Without such control the euro is unstable and at risk of failure from the tidal economic forces that develops between states that do not have common fiscal control. This is already becoming increasingly evident. Even with such control, there is strong evidence from other federal systems of government that stability is not guaranteed. The USA is just one example, where wealth is being concentrated amount a few due to financial mismanagement. Even under a completely different system of government control, as examples by the former USSR, the federal system is seen to fail, in this case the result of micro management of the economy. It could be argued that large monolithic block of society are doomed to fail by virtue of their own weight. China is an example of a society being held together by a ridged system of oppressive government, however even here there is evidence of differential financial and cultural pressures building. These are only controlled by government oppression, ruthlessly weeding out any dissent. This maybe the fate of all such large economic blocks, with ever increasing oppression being required for the government to remain in control. The use of every more sophisticated electronic monitoring may allow the block to stay together longer, but then this reflects the dystopian future predicted by George Orwell and others.

@sergioraya4388 Spain has a vested interest in supporting the EU and its one way membership system that makes leaving difficult. It is my view that the regions of Spain that want independence should be given it, as they are sufficiently large to be self sustaining and are sufficiently culturally different from the rest of Spain to have a case. There has been a great deal of hypocrisy within the EU towards the breakup of the UK, and I know you will say the legal status of the Spanish regions is different to those of the nation states that make up the UK, but if a region of people is sufficiently large to act as a nation it should be treated as such if it wants to be. I suspect that the EU's attude towards the breakup of the UK has more to do with supporting anything that discomforts an enemy as being see as good. While I have argued that Scotland is better off within the UK, I would accept the result of a Scottish referendum on the subject. In the case of northern Ireland, which is far less useful to the UK than Scotland, I would be very happy to see the back of this troublesome drain on UK resources, but in this case the majority of the people in NI want to remain in the UK and until that changes they must be allowed to remain, however they appear to be the ones who truly want their cake and eat it, insisting on a foot in both camps and thus trying to force the UK to remain in the EU. This is equivalent to the tail wagging the dog.

@NoName-hg6cc and go many royal families still exist in the EU member states? If are are bending over, it is the EU to the Chinese and Russia. It seems very unlikely that he EU will stand up to either, and the us has lost interest in Europe, so there is no one to fight your battles for you any more.
