Police brutality seems to be endemic across the western world. It is worth asking if this really has anything to do with statues to long dead notables, even if they were racist. If the statues had been taken down long ago, would this really have changed the behaviour of this minority of police officers involved in these incidents? Their actions are already illegal. The protest against statues which have been in place for centuries, in many cases, seems to be a distraction from the real issues of today. Taking down statues cannot change the past, though it can make it be forgotten.

@mohammedsalad957 that seems highly unlikely, Islam is not something that springs to mind when Canada is mentioned. Apart from anything else, Islam is not associated with tolerance and appears to be associated with a number of wars in the late 20th early 21st century. In its extreme, it has been associated with brutality and murder. If this is to be Canada's salvation then it is in real trouble, particularly if other Islamic states are an example.
