Comments by "Nigel Johnson" (@nigeljohnson9820) on "EU needs to 'learn from Brexit', chief negotiator Michel Barnier tells Euronews" video.
What the UK wants is the common market it joined, not the federal super state that the EU is morphing into.

@Frankly Frank there is a argument that states the mode opinion of a large group of people is often the best. It is very arrogant to assume that government always knows best. A combination of vested interest and incompetence has repeatedly show otherwise. There are very good reasons why the UK should leave the EU, the reason the the UK government is in such a mess is because it predominantly favours remaining in the EU, while it has had an instruction from the people to leave. Historically it has tied its self in knots signing past treaties which assumed the UK would always remain in the EU. The EU is a parasite that has invaded be infected the UK, it will be a painful process removing its tentacles from the UK establishment.

Darth Remainer I am no great fan of Margaret Thatcher, however even she was having doubts about the EU later in her premiership as her speech in parliament pointed out. The brexit referendum was a democratic vote across the whole of the UK, where every votes counted. From memory about 30% of the Scottish vote was for leave, so you are conveniently disenfranchising these Scottish voters. The EU is not a group of sovereign states pooling sovereignty for the common good, increasingly it is functioning as a group of states who have seceded sovereignty to a federal government, currently run by unelected eurocrats. This arrangement is likely to be formalised over the next few years with member states, soon to become regions, have no power of veto. This will become increasingly important as the EU seems its own military. Attendance of the EU parliament does not improve its democratic credentials. I am told the Chinese parliament is also well attended.

@colmivers interesting you are so keen to join a failed new empire of the EU. It is just as undemocratic as the UK every was, as you will increasingly discover. Enjoy your new slavery.

@Frankly Frank you confuse the government elite from the people. Were they ever asked? I suspect not, which explain the growth of "popularism". Does not the term popular equate to being the will of the majority. It seems that many EU governments, govern by permission of the people not by some divine right to rule.

@colmivers nothing to boast about and nothing to do with it changing from what it was to what it is now. I pity you for what it will become.

@botany500kojak actually it is the other way round, the UK is putting a big hole in the EU border. How do you feel about that?

Darth Remainer typical nationalist, you ignore the 30% of your own people who voted against your views. You ignore the fact that you are part of the UK and the UK voted democratically as a whole. Ironic really, as part of the EU you would have even less control of your destiny and you would be forced to pay for the privilege rather than receiving money. As to the future of he EU. It is committed to every closer union. It wants its own military, it wants its own embassies, it wants its own foreign office, it wants its own president. It wants to impose its own taxes. I suggest if it walks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is a duck or In this case a federal super state.

@cbcdesign001 are you saying that in the EU all views are acted upon, even those of a minority? This is clearly not the case or the EU would have been changed radically by the loss of Nigel Farage. It is more likely that minority views are discussed before being completely ignored. At the peak of the cold war, it was said that one of the big distinguishing features between the USSR and the west, was how they felt with dissidence. In the USSR, if you disagreed with the state you were shot. In the west, if you disagreed with the state you were ignored. The latter proved to be so much more efficient and cost effective, it is the preferred method of the new Russia and no doubt the EU.

@agn855 that is a really really poor analogue, likely to offend any feminists who reads it. We joined a recreational shooting club and found we had signed up in someone else's army. We joined a sailing club to find we are in someone else's navy.

A Id given the pointless nature of your comment, it appears that you should be able to tell me. So how is it that you are so uneducated? Maybe you would find it less exhausting if you did not dwell on it.

A Id your critical faculties appear to be missing, as you seem incapable of seeing the shortcomings of the EU. I can only assume that you believe the EU propaganda. What is really disturbing is your lack of foresight, not being able to extrapolate from the EU's current position to where it is heading in the future. You have no right to be indignant at the UK's decision to leave the EU, an organisation that does not resemble that which we joined. I suggest you read the "Emperor's New Clothes" a short story by Hans Christian Andersen. It explains the technique used by people like you to defend a fraud. Simply discredit those who are NOT FOOLED by the fraud by calling them stupid or incompetent.

A Id even if you are paranoid by nature, its still does not mean that someone is not out to get you. In this case you appear to be saved from such concerns by your extreme naivety. You should add Candide by Voltaire to your reading list, as you seem to think every thing is for the best in the best of all possible worlds. Thinking about it, your should also read Orwell's 1984.
