I assume that this report used an EU barometer. Unfortunately it appears to be stuck at fair weather for the EU when in fact there is very bad weather ahead.

peabase if I were looking for an explanation of words, I would not be seeking your advice as you seem to be using an EU dictionary similar to mao's Little Red Book. The EU's very existence is owed to playing on people's fears, it was brought into existence by the threat of further wars in Europe. It is ironic that it plays little part in keeping the peace, which is mostly due to the operations of NATO and the existential threat of war with the USSR. This caused the European states to huddle together for protection. There were unlikely to fight each other when the former Soviet Union represented a bigger threat. Now the more the eurocratic elite try and suppress the objections of the population to its grandiose plans, the greater the growth in nationalist feelings. Only referendums can truely guage the views of the people. Election results are clouded by a complex mix of local issues. The politician favour elections for this very reason, it allows them to fudge the conclusions to favour their pet policies, usually for vested interests. That is why the politicians hate the idea of referendums, particularly when they might detail the EU super state agenda.

peabase taking your last point first, I am counting on it. If the EU vetos the deal, it will be WTO rules and no payment to the EU, and no access to UK coastal waters after March 2019. The EU is developing towards becoming the new USSR, with certral planning an a ruling elite politburo. If those in the east still have resentment dating from the war, I would have expected Germany to be at the head of the queue, after all they did start it. I assuming you obtained your definition of popularism from EU propaganda monthly, since any oposition to the EU is conveniently given this label. I am not surprised that popularism predates the EU, since there are many historic examples of the rise and fall of corrupt empires. With regard to cutting off the money stream, it is with note that the money originates from the UK without any benefits in return, so I am very happy that the money fountain is being turned off. If the EU wishes to maintain it then let the EU dig for another Artesian well, maybe in Germany or one of the other donor states of the EU. The UK well is now dry.

peabase Sorry for what?????? Germany was let off paying any reparations after the war and received substantial aid to help rebuild. The UK was left with a war debt that was not paid off until 2006. As to the UK needing friends, with friends like these who needs enemies.

peabase not exactly sure what you expected Britain to do after the war. It was not exactly in a position to start another war with anyone, particularly Russia. The cold war rapidly developed after WWII ended. As I recall Britain rapidly gave up its colonies, unlike many EU member states, such as France and Spain.

peabase just imagine the resentment building against those EU states that kept their colonies and still maintain them with military force. I have no interest in Britain's past, only its future, and it does not have one within the EU.

You do have a distorted view of history. Spain, France and Portugal all have colonies to name but a few. Spanish Morocco is one where the military are still required to prevent rebellion. None of the former European colonial powers have much to be proud of in their past history. I suspect all were at some stage responsible for oppression of an indigenous population. We do agree Britain does not belong in the EU and the EU has no place in Britain, and no right to have any control over it. That means no ECJ, no right to access UK waters, and no reason that its citizens should receive any special treatment over and above that of any other migrants to the UK.
