The euro elite are setting themselves up against the people of Europe. Populism is derived from the word popular, meaning a policy popular with the majority of people. The EU want to suppress national culture and replace it with a monoculture with loyalty reserved for the EU super state. This is not going to happen and the more it is imposed from the top the more likely it will spark a people's revolt. The threat of the return to the 1930s has been used before to justify the formation of the EU super state, but this is not what the people want it is what the eurocrats want. There is nothing wrong with independent nation states cooperating on issues of mutual interest, but this is not the goal of the federalists who want a central government. Try and impose this and the EU will explore, precipitating the very thing that this 1930s threat is supposed to avoid.
