Good, the UK can then continue to export to NI.

@Mci_kdb6 that's ok. The EU can work out what it is going to do with its leaky border.

@roseanne9986 as I have said many time before, I am all in favour. It would give the rest of the UK a significant wind fall, while moving the financial and political liability onto the republic and the EU. It would save the rest of the UK about £13 billion a year, and any loyalist anger would be directed at the EU and the republic. A win win for the rest of the UK, only one slight snag, the choice is up to the people of NI, and they are not keen on removing their current status of being the EU, with none of the costs, while being supported by the UK government. Many understand that they will be exchanging a weakening control from Westminster, with a slowly tightening strangle hold from Brussels. So much for Irish independence.

@roseanne9986 then do it, hold your referendum. i am looking forward to the wind fall cash, and ireland dissppearing from our news channels, after all it will no longer be an important region of tne eu. Even better, the eu will no longer be able to use NI GFA to blackmail the UK. I do not clear about Irish reunification, so long as the rest of the UK is not expected to pay for it. There may even be a divorce settlement for Ireland to pay the UK, a lesson we learned from brexit,

@roseanne9986 no it's not, it gave away its soverigenty in exchange for EU membership. Your trade and foreign policy is made in Brussels, you get a one twenty seventh say in the matter. You must comply with EU regulations and directives, or risk a fine. Your coastal fishing waters are open to the other members of the EU. Even some of your tax rules are subject to inspection by the EU, and all of this is going to get slowly worse, as the EU grinds towards forming its super state,.Eventually the Irish government will be no more than a local council, doing what it is told by Brussels.

@roseanne9986 I doubt if the loyalist paramilitaries will be letting off bombs in the rest of the UK, following a referendum in NI. It's more likely that the Irish government will be their target, or maybe the EU. "Freedom from Brussels rule".

@peterdoyle1591 you want independence, you pay their pensions. As NI is a state within the union of the UK, the responsibility for civil servant pay is a devolved matter. Separate off the state and you separate off the responsibility for the pensions. You can also tell that 30% who still work in the civil service, that come reunification their jobs will no longer be required.
1
@peterdoyle1591 then maybe the UK government should make it a condition of the divorce settlement, that the Irish government takes on the cost of any civil servant pensions, or you could wait for another sixty years for reunification. Certainly the UK government could make it very expensive for the Irish government. The EU did teach a lot about how to get money out of a divorce settlement.

@petergaskinuk-1785 no simply the effect of the automatic spell checker in my android tablet, it has a tendency to edit posts just as they are sent. The dictionary is incomplete, even though it is set to English British. This results in it picking the word with the closest match to that which was written. I could switch it off, but it is normally more useful than not. It is only necessary to change one word, to alter the whole meaning of the sentence. The grip of the EU parasite is not a matter for hyperbola, it is the way it digests the member states, slowly, so no one will notice their country is being consumed.

@petergaskinuk-1785 the EU used the GFA in an attempt to keep the UK in the EU customs union. Had the UK remained in the union, it's trading rules would have been decided in Brussels, without any input from the elected UK government. This is the case for NI, which is trapped in this EU control structure. It was a clear attempt to stop brexit, and effectively stop the UK from leaving the EU.
