Nuclear power is inherently dangerous because of the radioactive waste it produces, but until there is a green solution to providing base load, nuclear power remains the best option, as it does not produce CO2. The hope must be for clean nuclear fussion, but that is always fifty years away. Clearly nuclear fission is very risky, but the earth is facing an environmentally mass extinction event if the world does not reverse its use of fossil fuels, and nuclear fission is currently the only way of providing the base load that we have become dependent upon.

La Corneja there some interesting developments with what is called an liquid air battery, it is something of a misnomer, as what it does is store energy in the form of liquefied air, making use of the latent heat of liquidation. Energy is extracted from the environment as the air is returned to the gas phase to drive turbine or piston generators. It was James Lovelock, who suggested that nuclear energy was our best hope of reducing global warming, even though he acknowledged that it had its own significant problems. The big advantage is that it is a proven technology that produces energy without emitting carbon dioxide. The problem with chemical battery energy storage is that it is so inefficient.
