  1. This is yet another area where Putin has failed. Before the invasion of ukraine, NATO was moribund, with the French questioning its need to exist. Following the invasion, NATO is reinvigorated, with former Soviet states considering applying to join. Russia was never at risk from NATO, that was just a delusion of Putin. However, Russia is now more at risk, as it renters the cold war isolation, with NATO, re-arming and pointing its weapons at an aggressive Russia. The western nuclear trip wire, had lost a lot of its tension over the years since the fall of the old Soviet union. Now that trip wire is back to maximum tension. So Putin has failed in one of his stated objectives, though his real goal was most likely conquest, in an attempt to rebuild the old Russian empire. Yet again Putin has failed, because he has made Russia an international pariah. And rather gaining strength and respect, his military has been shown to be deficit, and he has hand the fate of Russia into the hands of China. In that respect Russia has become a vassal state of China, who will buy up Russian assets at fire sale prices.
