A country with one of the world's largest deposits of lithium.

@memoryalphamale greed is the reason why man made climate change is being rejected by some in power, despite the overwhelming scientific evidence in its favour. The myopic would prefer to preserve the status quo methods of wealth generation, rather than invest in new technologies which might save the planet with far less economic pain. I am concerned that big business will do as much damage to the planet's environment producing "green" solutions as they did exploiting oil. Not only will there be lithium mines in virgin wilderness, but there is now talk of scraping the world's ocean beds to collect metal nodules high in cobalt, a vital element in electric motor production. The problem is that the sediments that will be stirred up, stand a good chance of suffocating ocean life. Far from fixing global warming, poisoning the world's oceans will accelerate the problem, but it will generate a lot of cash for a few mining corporation owners.

@memoryalphamale can we expect the middle east to become a quiet backwater with declining economies?

@memoryalphamale I would not limit that to just capitalism, I should point out that Russia and China are major polluters, but they are not known for their capitalism. The same goes for a number of theocracies of these some are resigned to their fate and welcome it as the will of their god. In fact they even be expediting the process. The common factors to all are greed and ignorance. There are even some who believe that the rich have decided on a hedonistic approach, because they know a comet/ asteroid is on its way that will wipe out all life on the planet. Some may already have their reservations for deep bunkers in which they hope/expect to wait out and survive the coming apocalypse. It is worth considering why so many, including me, are willing to embrace the idea that the end of the world is just a round the corner. I think most of our woes can be traced to the globalisation juggernaut that is destroying our planet for the sake of ever increasing GDP growth and profit. Every political system has a government that subscribe to these goals Ironically no one wants to be left behind in this race to the bottom. The finishing line is marked by global extinction, so there will no one around to announce the winner and the race does not offer a prize, so their is no profit in competing.
