The EU pyramid selling scam continues, shame that the quality of the potential victims has fallen so far.

@astralxing988 I would be interested to know if the proposed new members will be contributing to the EU budget. It really does not make sense to give away sovereignty and pay a fee for the privilege. If the new proposed members are not allowed to join, I suspect it is because they are seen as a financial risk by the other members. The joining document should say " abandon all hope ye who enter here". Maybe the Albanians and the northern Macedonians are not aware of what I suspect is the Eurocrats mantra: "We are the EU, you will be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile." I am sure this is what the EU has in common with the star trek monsters the Borg.

@astralxing988 let's see what happens when a member state disobeys EU rules. Of course they give away sovereignty. In fact more and more as time goes by. Were these new states not forced to reform before they allowed to join? This is an example of EU shaping the culture of the new member to comply with the norm of the collective. I note when you are lossing an argument you resort to name calling. It was not so long ago the Poland was taken to the high court to answer charges about the reform of its judicial system by its elected government. Italy and Greece are not allowed to set their own budgets. Doesn't EU law superseded the laws of the member states? There are many other examples. This is federal control by the back door. As to the joining document, I think my warning should be added to the small print. And if the EU behaves like a sci fi monsters, then I see no reason not to identify it as such.

Miguel Melchior interesting a region the size of a small country is not allowed self determination. I assume spain will accept Gibraltar's right for self-determination. As I recall Scotland recently had a referendum on independence and voted to stay in the uk. This was billed as the vote of a generation, so unless the life expectancy in Scotland has dropped significantly as a result of SNP miss rule, they are not due for another independence vote for sometime.

@rsrs8632 that is what it usually says on a pyramid selling scam prospectus.

@astralxing988 membership in exchange for a fee and sovereignty.

Miguel Melchior what agony? I really do not care what they do. I am just amused at how gullible you have to be to want to join the EU. In most cases it seems as if it is the political elite who want to join, the people are just dragged along in ignorance. This may explain why populism is growing in the EU, it's when they discover their leaders are lying. I am just happy that the UK has escaped the EU parasite. 30 countries, I said it was a pyramid selling scam. In these schemes, its the last to join that lose the most.

Miguel Melchior is that why the eu is do keen to see Scotland join them. As I said you have to be really gullible to want to join the EU and the SNP certainly fit that bill. Fortunately we have a PM who is willing to save the Scots from their deranged disloyal countrymen. The Spanish and Italians are doing the same to those seeking independence, in this case the EU is helping demonstrating EU hypocrisy.

Miguel Melchior are you suggesting the it is ok for a member state to break the law? Does that mean that EU member states are free to break EU law. Gibraltarians overwhelming voted not to be part of spain. But the eu is very selective about which people's rights it will respect, and it is all about the self interest of the eu.

Miguel Melchior and how many regions in the EU want to leave. You might find that Germany starts to decompose. The longer the EU exists, the greater the chance it will be destroyed by civil war.

@astralxing988 have you not been to Hong Kong? States will join the union because of what they expect to get out of it. There are not many states that want a federal Europe, but the process rolls on regardless, like some creeping poison. The political elites make decisions that are not necessarily endorsed by their populations. The UK was tricked into joining the common market (EEC) using false pretences, they were then dragged into the EU against their will, as is evident by Brexit.

@astralxing988 you really are stupid, there is a government document, classified under the thirty year rule, that proves the UK public were tricked into joining the EU. I refer you to FCO 30/1048 which details the extent of the government deception. It is clear that you really don't understand democracy, why would you, you support the EU. The UK held a nation wide referendum, where every voted counted equally. The decision was to leave the EU. It is laughable that you still don't understand this.
