@MinimaAmoralia I my opinion the EU has refined the uk government strategy to take advantage of its size and 27 member states.
It uses the tyranny of the majority. This may sound very democratic, but in fact, if used correctly, it can be engineered to achieve the most unpopular agenda. It relies on creating adapting coalitions that can selectively oppress any minority view it likes.
Summed up in the phrase " the needs of the majority outweighs the needs of the minority". Fine provided you are not a member of the minority. So by a process of divide and conquer, its possible to force through any policy it likes, by galvanising the vote of a disinterested majority, those who have nothing to lose on a particularly issue. It works well for things like building a nuclear waste site, or running roads through virgin forests, or cutting them down for open cast mining. The trick is knowing when to support the "oppressed" minority. That is when it furthers the super state agenda.
This policy plays into a pseudo liberal agenda, as is currently the case in Hungary and Poland, where parental rights to decide on children's education can be demonized, in the name of universal liberal values.
