This is beginning to look like Romania before the fall of Nicolae Ceausescu. Alexander Lukashenko should be concerned he will suffer Ceausescu's fate.

Master Of Fatality if they were tougher, they would have got rid of this tin pot dictator. Ceausescu thought he had the support of the military, until he didn't.

Master Of Fatality a general strike, together with sanctions, might put military pay cheques at risk. Which foreign powers stand to benefit if he stays, and which if he goes?

Master Of Fatality I just asked the question. I know Putin is keen to regain control of the former USSR satellite countries, so a russian invasion is possible, justified by the need to protect belarusian Russians and to restore democracy. Then again, the eu ponzi scheme is always looking to recruit new members, but if Belarus is poor then maybe the EU won't be interested. They are sending millions in aid to the country, which suggests it's a target for eu expansion. The eu would like to thwart russian expansion. To function, the EU needs poor regions into which in can move its manufacturing, maybe it's a replacement for Poland in that respect. Certainly there is the scent of regime change in the air. It would be nice if the people of Belarus could rid themselves of their dictator without foreign interference, but I doubt that is going to happen.

@korzeniek78 I would not be surprised if Russia sends in troops "to restore order", particularly if there is a general strike. Once in, they won't be going home any time soon. It is one of the two scenarios that seem most likely. This is one time where the US is no where to be seen, this will be between the EU and Russia, if there is any foreign intervention.
