  1. The problem is that neither the EU or the RoI really want to unity with the NI financial and political basket case. From the point of view of the rUK, it would provide a £20 billion per annum windfall, as that what NI costs the UK. In the short term that would be the cost to the EU/RoI, not to mention of the political problem of the angry loyalists. Reunification would allow the rUK to leave the EU without the nonsense of the backstop or EU customs union. That is another reason why the EU really does not want it.

  2.  @prophetsnake  the only way NI will unite with the RoI is when the demographic in NI changes in favour of republicans. Given sufficient time the EU will not exist for NI to join. The UK should leave without a deal and make the Irish border issue an EU problem to solve.
