The protestors would be mad to become violent. The Chinese government is looking for an excuse to significantly ramp up its responds to the protests. One must ask if the protesters are behind the petrol bombs or are they being thrown by Chinese government agents. A question that the western press should try and answer. The government need a major violent event as an excuse to send in the military. A bomb explosion would most likely be sufficient. If the government sends in its military forces, the protestors will have lost the argument.

@Thermopylae2007 the Chinese government is very sensitive to claims that it is repeating tiananmen Square massacre. It will need a big event as an excuse to act. I do not think it can afford to give in, it needs to save face.
