@_d-- that is likely what they will do in Belarus. The Russian moves on Ukraine was in response to EU expansion plans there.

Is this going to turn into the first EU war? The first of many no doubt.

@_d-- you really do have a death wish. Do you really think an EU army will be a match for any of the super powers. The EU is playing solders, they don't spend sufficient to have a real army, and they have seventy years of military R&D to catch up on. The EU gaining a military will move it from being harmless to mostly harmless, or just sufficiently dangerous to warrant plans for its elimination.

SpinazFou of course I am aware of neural networks. You do realise that autonomous weapon systems cannot operate without an effective satellite communication and guidance system. Which is why both Russia and China have tested anti satelite systems. But that has little to do with the EU defending itself against Russia or China. Greece and the EU are more than a match for Turkey, but they had better hope that Russia does not join the Turkish side, because they are no match for that combination. Most likely the EU will do what it always does, and write a stiff protest to the UN. It would be ironic if it needed the help of the Americans. It would be difficult as both Turkey and Greece are in NATO. At the moment all Turkey has to do is open its borders to the migrants it is restraining and let them flood into Europe. I suspect that might happen next.

SpinazFou true, they just have to turn off the gas tap to bring the EU to its knees. At the moment neither Russia or China have a good reason to attack the EU, but they will, given time. There is always a chance of an accidental miscalculation. I still think that if the EU had an army when Russia annexe Crimea, the EU could have been in a shooting war with Russia by now. The super powers have avoided direct conflict so far by fighting proxy Wars through third parties. Maybe that is what will happen between Greece and Turkey. We will see what happens when the EU decides to challenge China in the South China sea, but that is a few years off yet.

SpinazFou the EU wanted to westernize the Ukraine, but was forced to back off when Russia decided to defend its interests. Maybe the EU was looking for a new potential member, the EU Ponzi scheme always needs new members.

SpinazFou but it transports russian gas.

@_d-- both trump and Biden want EU member states to spend more on their own defence. Trump does not think the Europeans are pulling their weight in NATO. One of the reasons why both Germany and Japan were so initially successful after WWII was because they were not encumbered by having to pay for their own defence. There were other reasons, such as starting from scratch building a new modern industry.

@_d-- I think Putin has a plan to regain control of all the territories and satellite states of the former USSR. This will include the Balkan countries. It will b interested if the EU wants these countries as member states. Before you suggest it, there is no way Russia will join the EU, except as it's leader, and it's the french, and Napoleon Macron, who wants that job.

Miguel Melchior me being stupid, you are clearly not following the news. It is a shame you are too stupid to understand global politics.

@angelobucciarelli4848 you know that is not going to happen. But I suspect that Turkey will open its border and allow through all those migrants wanting to cross into the EU. Erdogan has threatened to do this before, he may just do it now.

@PETrov_Yo not sure if the US will involve itself in EU politics. Trump certainly would not, Biden maybe. But the US may decide that this is an EU conflict and let both sides learn from their mistakes. Of late Turkey has either been less aggressive or the news has been suppressed. Sooner or later, the EU will flex it's near nonexistent military muscles and get itself involved in a conflict. There is certainly ample opportunity.
