Hapalon G you should understand that Putin will send in troops to end the protests, and annexe Belarus. Either way Lukashenko is toast. The appetite for oil and gas in the West has greatly reduced, so there is little scope for oil price increases. The west is reducing its dependence on oil derived plastics, soon it is going to be difficult to give the stuff away. This has already happened during the Covid-19 pandemic. A real problem for Russia, whose economy is so dependent upon it. This is evident from the fact that the Germans are considering cancelling the Russian oil pipe line. It is possible that the EU has decided it can get any gas it wants from the Mediterranean via Greece. Certainly this is the only reason why Russia might support Turkey's claim on the med gas fields.

Hapalon G you really are not keeping up with the state of the fossil fuel market. Demand for oil is down as a result of Covid-19. This demand is never likely to recover. A few months ago, the price of oil went negative as demand was so low there was nowhere left to store it. The Germans are definitely rethinking there need for Russian gas, and are likely to cancel the Nordic 2 pipeline. Western commitments to reduce dependence on fossil fuels will mean Russia will increasingly struggle to find a market for its gas. In the UK there are plans to turn off the domestic gas distribution network in the next few years and force all new builds to use greener heating solutions.

Hapalon G oil price is down 38% on the year. There are moves to continue home working and fossil fuel vehicles are to be phased out by 2030. Do you really think oil demand is going to continue at pre Covid-19 levels. Even the demand for oil based plastics is being reduced. I supposed more under developed countries such as Russia, that has gas reserves will continue to use it domestically. But the world is being forced to move away from oil by global warming. Certainly oil prices are not going to recover. It is no longer cost effective to continue with shale oil production. The age of fuel oil is over, replaced by a demand for lithium and cobalt and other rare earth metals. The EU is looking for other sources of gas. I suspect the Nordic 2 pipeline will be cancelled, and Europe will cut its dependence on russian gas.

Hapalon G are you really dense, the shale oil business was used to reduce the cost of oils to the west. The fact that it is no longer economically viable shows what is happening to oil demand. Russia can sell its gas to China, both have little regard for the global environment. Putin only cares about what happens while he is alive, after that the world can go to hell. But the Chinese will only be interested in paying the market value, which will be reduced if no one but the Chinese want it. Even Putin might be getting concernd about the effects of global warming. It will not be good for Russia or the world if large areas of Russia catches fire. I have not read the contract that the Germans have with Russia, but I bet they can control how fast they use the gas. In any case, it is not really in Russia's interest for Ukraine to earn any cash. The Russians do not want Ukraine joining the EU, but the Germans might.

Hapalon G you are just in denial that fossil fuels are over. As I said those like Russia and China who have little concern for the environment will continue to use them,but the more enlightened states in the West will stop using them to achieve their zero carbon targets before 2030. Russia is not immune from the effects of climate change, my guess Putin has calculated that he will be dead before the consequences become apparent and irreversible. Given the increasing fires in the US and Australia, the 2030 deadline seems to be too late. Countries like Russia that fail to embrace the greener technologies and insist on clinging to those that date back to the 18th century are going to be significantly disadvantaged, producing fossil fuels no one wants.

Hapalon G you really have no idea. How much do you think climate change is going to cost the west in the next 10 year? It is going to be a lot more than the switch to greener solutions. There are also political considerations. The EU wants independence from Russia gas, so that it can apply sanctions with out risk. You are deluding your self if you think the world can continue using fossil fuels. The EU will not be able to meet its carbon negative ambitions while turning russian gas. More importantly public opinion will soon demands action as the effects of global warming begins to affect daily life. Businesses opinion will change as it hit their profits. The first big effects are going to be agriculture and air pollution. But fires and floods will affect insurance, air travel and property owners. You might like the west to continue to buy gas, but that is not going to happen. Infrastructure purchased to process and store gas may never be used. It is you who is dreaming of continuing to use past technology. Money will be spent on nuclear power to meet negative carbon uses. The problem of new homes will not be how to heat them, but how to keep them cool. Only those with low IQs think they can ignore the climate change problrm. They will find climate change will not ignore them. Come back in a couple of years when large areas of Russia are burning.

I wonder how much of the profits from Russian gas exports finds its way into Putin's pockets? Hapalon G calling it propaganda, shouldn't you be calling it fake news, like other russian agents do. First, it has killed someone in Salisbury. Second it depends on the dose and the formulation, add the odd methyl group and it's a lot less toxic, but still a weapon derived from WMD. The use of and make a lot of sense if you want to send a message. Anyone with a bit of chemical knowledge can obtain cyanide,but a nerve agent is a different story. We have had assassinations with polonium, not exactly a common of garden kind of poison. The big problem with using a radioactive isotope is that it is so easy to trace. A nerve agent is much more difficult to find. In Russia, Putin does not need to send messages, far easier to have people killed by being hit by a truck or falling off a building or apparently being mugged. Then there are those who spread polonium across London. That you cannot hide. Those using a nerve agent as a poison would need a level of protection. This is easily provided by modifying the chemical structure of the poison. Why sea russian nerve agent,only available to the state, if the goal was not to send a message to others opposed to Putin. Why would so many western countries conspire to blame Russia for using WMD. Who else has a motive to poison the people targeted. In Russia, Putin's critics suffer more prosaic deaths such as:, unfortunate accidents, unexplained shootings or muggings. In Russia, there is no need to send a message. Elsewhere in the world, the message is that the Russian state will get you where ever you run.
