  1. The EU is doing exactly what the new UK government wants. The more intransigent the EU the better. It will allow the UK to leave with no deal and blame the EU for it. By holding out for a backstop, the EU is ensuring it will not get one. The EU is counting on the UK parliament having a majority to oppose a no deal Brexit, that is a serious error because the UK parliament has already rejected the Brexit agreement three times and therefore cannot provide an alternative to a no deal Brexit. The new UK PM has a number of ways of forcing a no deal Brexit without patrolling parliament. The remainers are so dedicated to the remain cause that they are going on holiday for six weeks. If the EU is counting on a UK general election to fix Brexit, they have miscalculated, they might end up with Farage as the next UK PM or a reversal of article 50, with a strong anti integrationist government in charge. That would see an end to the EU project.
