Comments by "Nigel Johnson" (@nigeljohnson9820) on "Hong Kong democracy: Beijing and London at loggerheads over UK residency offer" video.
The British, by offering a life boat to the people Hong Kong has embarrassed China and made it lose face. Basically it is saying that the Chinese system is something from which to escape. It is interesting that the world's two former communist countries now have an effective emperor and tsar respectively, turning them into true dictatorships.. I was not aware that Australia has made a similar offer, good for them.

Miguel Melchior how will anyone know, when the Chinese government controls and "adjusts" the figures? It is also some what unfair, given that China is the source of the virus that has destroyed the world economy. If there is any justice, the world will place China in quarantine and cease trading with it.

@ceciliayu9826 they give him 50cents to give China bad publicity. You would think they would have more intelligent ways of spending their money. They should have paid him to shut up, then I would have not been able to continue my comments about China.

Far from being a low for the uk, it is an echo of the best of British honour. It is the Chinese government that has acted dishonourable by failing to wait the 50 years agreed in the handover treaty signed by China and the British. It will make Taiwan and Russia very nervous, as clear!y China cannot be trusted to honour anything it signs. It is also disingenuous of the Chinese to claim this is a internal security matter in which the west should not interfere, when at the same time making threats about the uk choice of its supplier for 5G and nuclear power, both of which are certainly a matter of British national security.

@rcchen5624 I am not attacking Taiwan, I am attacking China for its aggression. Was Tibet also written into the Chinese constitution, how do you justify its annexation? Putting your victims into the constitution does not make them any less of a victim. In the case of Hong Kong, there was a written international agreement that China would abide by the two system division for fifty years, but it just could not wait.

@cx5954 knowing how productive the Chinese can be, inviting people from Hong Kong will be good for the UK economy. They will come and start new businesses and make money for themselves and the UK. Taking them from Hong Kong means they will accept uk democracy. I just hope their diets are better than those of the mainland Chinese.

But it was written into Chinese law that the Hong Kong system of government would be respected for fifty years from the time of hand over.

@s0.0s communism?? The Chinese now have an emperor and have returned to an imperial system of government.

Miguel Melchior the world has woken up to the danger that China poses. The west will seek to reduce trade with China and China is sitting a mountain of US bad debt.

@ceciliayu9826 agreed. There is a connection with empathy and respect for other species and the way humans treat each other.

@rcchen5624 that is still 2000 in stimulus payment, but I suspect negative comments about Taiwan, originating in China, are about to increase in frequency, as this looks like the next target for Chinese expansion. For China,Taiwan has always been unfinished business. The Chinese government now seems to be in a hurry to settle such issues or it would have waited the 50 years, specified in the Hong Kong handover agreement, before imposing its will on Hong Kong.

@rcchen5624 from your attacks on Taiwan, I guess that you too think China will target it very soon.

@UC95hZPYUZyJo06VX98QDahA China has never given up its claim on Taiwan, it has just not bothered to pursue it. I suspect that is about to change, given the more aggressive stance being taken by the Chinese government. China is an aggressive predator, as is evident from its annexation of Tibet. I am just speculating on what it will attack next.

@ceciliayu9826 it is not only a matter of human rights, it is a matter of survival for the west which has been feeding the beast with trade. China is destroying the global environment, everything is secondary to its quest to be the world's top super power. The only chance the rest of the world has to control it, is to stop trading with it. There are now ample grounds to quarantine, sanction and isolate China. Like the covid virus, a failure of the world to act in a timely fashion will be costly.
