  1. Not just laptops, tablet computers. In fact all portable battery powered equipment. Manufacturers must not be allowed to get away with tricks to stop battery replacement, such as storing critical settings in ram. The EU should go further and impose a standard for replacement batteries, so that third party, off the shelf replacements can be used. It is nonsense to claim that battery replacement makes the product less water proof. This is just a design issue, both the product and the battery can be made water proof, it is then a matter of designing a water proof connector between the two. There are not that many electrical connections involved, certainly no more than 6. Batteries are used by manufactures to design in obsolescence, that must stop.
