The uk government cannot win. It has been accused of initially reacting too slowly to isolate the UK from infection. Now that the uk is being proactive, it is being criticised again. Judging by the pictures of the behaviour of UK holidaymakers abroad, they have no reason to complain about being quarantined on return home. The economy will certainly benefit from reducing the amount of UK money being spent in Spain. It was not so long ago that the EU was saying that UK holidaymakers would be punished by being made to queue at EU passport control.

@buzzhawk unfortunately for you, the uk government is taking a proactive role in stopping the import of the virus, so far fewer uk holidaymakers are likely to visit spain or europe this year, given that they have no way of knowing if they face weeks of quarantine on their return. Judging from the nervousness of many eu membership state governments at the prospect of a second wave, uk holidaymakers that are forced into self isolation on their return to the uk should consider themselves lucky, as they could found themselves trapped in isolation in a foreign hotel, as happened at the beginning of the pandemic.
