  1. He wants a new ottoman empire. The explains the move away from secularism and towards Islam, he wants Turkey to become the leader of the Muslim world. At a guess he sees turkey as the modern moderate voice of islam. He will be making enemies among those who also covet the title of leader, such as Saudi Arabia. It would not be surprising to see attempts to destabilise Turkey.
