@32lkrpo2fjm the trick is to change and tighten our standards to keep unwanted imports out. Applying tariffs is required to encourage the growth of the home producers. Tariffs should only be free on imported raw materials and products that we cannot produce at home due to geography, geology and climate.

@32lkrpo2fjm zero import tariffs make no sense if the intention is to rebuild local manufacturing and agriculture. Only raw materials and product we cannot manufacture should be zero tariff. Where tariffs fail to control imports, internal standards need to provide protection. Certainly standards can protect food quality and animal welfare. There is nothing to stop the UK insisting all products are marked with their true origin. It is unfortunate this was not done long ago, when our manufacturing base was not so badly damaged. Brexit must not be allowed to be an excuse for a race to the bottom. It does the UK no long term good to buy from he cheapest in the world, that is the way to export wealth.
