What is the effect of depriving the water if sunlight? What has happened to the oxygen levels in the water? What has happened to the marine environment?

I did, i suggest you do the same. This is just from google, but i can find references to scientific papers if you like. Scientists estimate that 50-80% of the oxygen production on Earth comes from the ocean. The majority of this production is from oceanic plankton — drifting plants, algae, and some bacteria that can photosynthesize. One particular species, Prochlorococcus, is the smallest photosynthetic organism on Earth.26 Feb 2021

@alessandrogiovanardi558 wrong the sunlight penetrates a significant distance into water, it's what algae and seaweed uses to grow. Much of the world's oxygen comes from the sea as a result of photosynthesis. Cut off the light and oxygen levels fall. A covered pond will die and become anaerobic. And before you say it, this applies to both salt and fresh water.

@alessandrogiovanardi558 irony does not travel well in these posts, unless it is well signalled. If there was life in these waters, before the panels were built, it is likely to be dead now, at least where the panels cutoff sunlight reaching the water,
