The Japanese people should hang their head's in shame. There is nothing that can defend this cruel and wicked practice.

@MrB1923 there can be no defence, cultural or otherwise, for infecting so much pain on a sentient animal. Given how much whale numbers have been reduced, a small increase in their numbers cannot be used to justify such barbaric treatment. The world is well awary of the Japanese culturally lack of empathy and compassion, this was amply demonstrated during WWII. What is being defended as a cultural feature of the Japanese is in fact a cultural defect that should be eradicated.. I am well aware that the West breeds farm animals to be killed and eaten, I disagree with that too and became a vegetarian as a result. Those who have no regard for the suffering of fellow creatures disgust me.

@WILDMIUMIU not necessary, as you are àttempting to defend the indefensible. No argument about sustainable populations or managed harvesting can be used to defend a practice that is essentially cruel and unnecessary. Following your logic to the extreme, it would be perfectly legitimate to harvest humans for meat and proteins, based on the size of there sustainable population size and the means of killing them could be by explosive bullets, one round each, even if they do take a couple of hours to die. Before you complain, I suggest you review all the media data relating to the size of the human population and how nutritious human flesh can be. You could also look up the recipes associated with "long pig" and the history of cultures that have eaten humans as part of their religious traditions. You should look at this from all points of view, particularly the whales and other cetacean.
