So Biden will be putting pressure on the EU to change the NI protocol as it has resulted in the loyalists rejecting the GFA.

@scrappyozar it is not the DUP, but the loyalist paramilitaries who have said they will no longer respect the GFA and are threating to attack NI custom posts. Maybe the US media did not bother to tell you that.

@scrappyozar the only reason the IRA have gone quiet, is because their murderous campaign failed to produce results except for the open land border. The GFA only exists because of nationalist paramilitary blackmail. This is clearly evident by the threat to return to violence if the land border is ever closed. Well now there is a similar threats from the other side of the political spectrum, regarding the sea border. If the loyalists carry out their threats, that border will also be uncontrollable. You must hope that loyalist determination is less than that of the IRA and its affiliates.

@scrappyozar all in favour. It will move the liabilities, both financial and political, on to the RoI and the EU, if the vote is for reunification. That is most likely the reason why it won't happen.

@scrappyozar maybe until the some loyalist terrorist kills an EU customs official, or they blow up a customs post. Personally, I suspect this is more bluster than true intent, however such action would end the GFA and make life very difficult for the EU. There is little doubt that the NI protocol will ultimately lead to reunification, which is most likely the intention.
