If that is true it should be possible to test the population to see how many have had the virus and recovered. It is my understanding that for Hurd immunity to work a very high proportion of the population must have had the virus. It is also necessary for the virus to leave those who recover with long term immunity.

@jameschambers4387 the figure I recall being given for Covid-19 hurd immunity is around 80% of the population. This figure was regarding the UK population, which is no where near this figure yet. The virus is certainly more violent than first believed, it is now accepted that it is airborne. Early tests showed that only 20 virus particles were required to result in an infection.

@jameschambers4387 the virus is showing an number of anomalies, with some inexplicable variations in rates of infection. This maybe due to genetic variations in the population or mutations in the virus. The picture is further confused by social and cultural differences. Questions to be answered,is why Italy is doing so well now and why the UK did so poorly. Today the UK R number is experimented to be between 1.2 and 1.5. Certainly opening up the economy so soon was a bad idea, but so was the behaviour of the population over the summer months who took a Cavalier attitude to infection prevention, where you might be forgiven for thinking the pandemic was over.
