Maybe Putin is surveying the next state to annexe after his success in Crimea. The suspicion is that Russia is attempting to regain the territories and satellite states in lost when the USSR fell.

@yasm937 Russia will only be interested in Serbia if it of value to Russia, or rather Putin. At the moment Serbia is nothing more than a trophy. A symbol of Russia regaining what it had when it was the USSR. Serbia is going to struggle to remain out of the clutches of either the EU or Russia. Both are empires in the making (remaking in the case of Russia). Both are really nasty organisations, the EU hides I with the hypocrisy of its illusory democracy. No one believes Russia is democratic.They will be at each others throats as soon as the EU has federalised and forms its own military force.

@yasm937 Putin's Russia is run like a criminal organisation, similar to the Mafia with Putin as the don. On that basis, Serbia and Russia were made for each other. It is either that or call for the tender mercies of the self righteous hypocrisy of the corrupt and decadent EU. My original post was simply making the observation that Putin appears to be intent on regaining the territory lost to the USSR, and with that alleged russian agent Trump in the White House there is little to stop him.

@onjegin6984 you are correct, I apologise. It must be assumed that Putin not only wishes to recover former USSR territories, but also add to them. He will certainly not be happy to see Serbia fall under the influence of the EU, which may explain his interest.
