By now the us will know which radioactive isotopes the rocket was using as fuel.

It appears that these weapons are now more dangerous to the originating state than to prospective enemies. The Russians seem to be really good at killing their own people with their own weapons. The enemy needs only fear them once, the Russians have to live with the danger on a daily basis. It's like arming your self with a hand grenade to protect your self against potential muggers. You may never be mugged, but the grenade has a finite chance of blowing you up every day you carry it

@bca-biciclindcuaxel7527 I could have equally leveled the comment at any of the nuclear powers. They are all guilty of killing their own people and friends in the quest to develope and deploy nuclear weapons. Many have made large tracks of their own territory dangerously radioactive either during testing or by accident. The UK tested most of its weapons in the Pacific or in Australia, but they still managed to contaminate a large number of their own personal. That is not counting the radioactivity that was released from reactors used to produce the nuclear fuel. In the UK's case it was the windscale accident during the 1950s. The US have done similar. They have also lost a number of primed hydrogen bombs. The Russians are arguable the most careless, with accidents and the deliberate disposal of old nuclear submarines and fuel. The French and the Chinese tend to keep their mistakes secret, but I have no doubt they have made a number.
