The Italian government has backed down in response to EU blackmail. Maybe they do not which to emulate the fate of the Greek government that was replaced by an EU puppet. This may still be their fate if they do not acquiesce to EU budget demands. The Italian government's policies are at odds with their intention to remain in the EU and the euro zone. May be they have caught the taste for having heir cake and eating it. I wonder where they acquire that?

@maxmustermann5612 Italy has significant gold reserves. The EU is trying to raise the cost of borrowing for Italy. This plan could back fire if the Italians go ahead with their plans any way. It will rebound on the confidence in the stability of the euro, the very thing the Germans are most keen to avoid. The EU will use this to push the federal agenda.
