Comments by "Nigel Johnson" (@nigeljohnson9820) on "Further Brexit confusion as Speaker derails May's plan for a third "meaningful" vote" video.
By refusing a further vote on Mrs May's deal, the deal is dead and along with it the backstop. It is unlikely that even the most europhile UK MPs are sufficiently brave as to force the government to revoke the article 50 application. Whatever public opinion is now, the last democratic record of it was in favour of leaving the EU. Only a second referendum has the necessary democratic legitimacy to change that result. If MPs vote to revoke article 50 unilaterally they are in direct opposition to the people and can no longer claim that the UK is a democracy, particularly as they all stood in the last general election on manifestos that was supporting brexit. If the EU refuse to delay the article 50 implementation, the UK WILL leave on the 29th this month without a deal and the UK will be able to claim that the action of the EU lead to this result.
