This is what happens when you sell your means of production into foreign ownership. You open yourself up to blackmail. The UK must become self sufficient, the process maybe painful but it is necessary. Here is a good chance that BMW will try to move to the US to avoid US tariffs. The German car industry is going to suffer a loss of sales to both the UK and the US.

W.A M.P I have always found Japanese cars far more reliable than European cars. The French and Italian being the worst, but the German cars are overpriced. I have not seen many American cars, but those I have seem poorly designed with built in obsolescence.

Rata 4U The UK must become as self sufficient as possible, only importing raw materials and produce that climate and geographic has denied it. Therefore our trade should be based on thing we cannot produce for ourselves. We have a massive and unnecessary trace deficit with the EU. This should be reduced to just those items we cannot produce. We have delegated the manufacture of most electronic consumerables, computers and IT electronics to foreign producers. These industries must be brought home. Globalisation has turned the UK into a nation of consumers, that is why we have a massive unaffordable trade deficit with the rest of the world. Trade is not good if it is so one sided it bankrupts you. A growing GDP is not good if its increase is the result of imports fuelling the internal market.

Krisztián Kőrösi no one has moved yet.

Krisztián Kőrösi with that old name it's not going to sell many.

Krisztián Kőrösi you made my point for me, that is what happens when you allow foreign take over of UK industries. The EU car manufactures are facing a rough time, due to increasing US tariffs and the collapse of car sales in the UK. No doubt the UK will impose reciprocal tariffs on car imports from the EU. I suppose the UK will buy the better value more reliable Japanese cars. German claims of quality engineering have been destroyed by the diesel exhaust gas scandal and the other EU car makers have never really had a reputation for reliability to lose. With the EU it is all style over substance.

Krisztián Kőrösi do keep up, trump has proposed a 20% tariff on EU car imports. The UK will no doubt copy any tariffs imposed on car import to the eu, post brexit. If the UK can't afford EU cars than EU car manufactures will suffer. I understand the UK currently imports a fifth of German car output, this is likely to drop substantial post brexit.

Krisztián Kőrösi you do have a selective reading problem, I wrote that the UK would most likely copy the EU tariffs imposed on the UK post brexit. There is now a very good chance of a hard brexit with WTO rules and the UK paying nothing to the EU.

Krisztián Kőrösi you failed to allow for the drop in the value of the pound. In an case it is worth it to escape the EU and a chance to rebalance our economy. One of the disadvantages of such close coupling and interdependence in the EU is that French and German investments in the UK will also suffer.

Krisztián Kőrösi contrary to what you may believe this is a world beyond the EU.

Krisztián Kőrösi we will see when we are finally free of the EU. It is interesting you measure success by how many foreign countries are willing to exploit our work force. I doubt if Germany measures it's success by how many foreign companies operate in its borders.
