By allowing the NHS to strike, the UK government has condemned the conservative party to becoming a minority party with fewer than 65 seats in parliament after the next general election. It is highly unlikely that the UK electorate will forgive the conservatives for letting down the NHS nurses.
This is particularly true after so much money, (4.7 billion ), was wasted on defective and over priced PPE during the covid pandemic. The amount wasted would have easily met the pay demands of the nurses and other NHS staff.
The government is spinning the news, to make the nurses pay demands look excessive. The independent pay review, which happened some time ago, failed to take account of current inflation, and it was stated on News night last night, that the nurses are asking for 5% + CPI, not 5% + RPI.
There are over 46,000 NHS nurse job vacancies, simple supply and demand dictates that pay needs to increase to attract more nurses into the profession, or will the government further attempt to privatise the NHS by trying to meet this demand with very expensive agency staff. Increasing the profits of the privately owned medical staffing agencies. There is clearly nothing like wasting tax payer money on private shareholders.
