@birulusbirvatan2370 your grasp of the sequence of history leaves a lot to be desired. Both France and Germany predate the US. If you a talking about the post war reconstruction, I don't think the us had much to do with the politics other than stopping Germany from rearming.

Turkey should know this action will be counter productive. The EU will be too busy dealing with migrants to offer any help to Turkey. More likely that the EU, will be keen on regime change in Turkey. I don't think NATO will come to the air of an aggressive member state. I suspect NATO will only react if Russia tries to attack or invade Turkey. Turkish forces in Syria will be considered as fair game.

@doganozgur are you suggesting that Russia will stand aside and allow Turkey to fire at Syrian troops?

@doganozgur Turkey's actions are inconsistent with your suggested goal. There was no reason to involve Europe if Turkey did not want EU help in defeating Russia. I wonder if Assad knows he has lost control to Putin? Turkey is no match for Russia. What is it going to do if Syria is not the limit of Putin's ambitions. Who will come to Turkey's aid if Russia decides to invade?

@doganozgur the west is dammed no matter what it does. Either condemned for interfering or for doing nothing. In the case of Syria there appears to be no good side worthy of support. The choice seems to be between Assad or Isis. I personally have some admiration for the Kurds, who have fought bravely against both Assad and Isis, while apparently being persecuted by Turkey. But I freely admit to not understanding the detail and having to judge the position through the filter of western media reports. There were media reports that Turkey was sending military support to Isis. I suspect that Turkey may have bought into the idea that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, when in middle eastern politics the true position is that the enemy of my enemy is most likely also my enemy. With such duplicity in abundance, is there any wonder the western states do not want to be involved, particularly as any possible advantages have already been secured by Russia.
