  1. The EU must be getting really worried, after Jan 1st, how are they going to make a distinction between the UK's punishment for leaving the EU and covid restrictions. Worse still when so many EU states are in a similar lockdown position.

  2. Given the speed with which this new strain of the virus is spreading. It is likely that EU travel bans from the UK are already too late to stop the new strain reaching Europe, It is most likely already there and has been for days.

  3.  @evulclown  what ever situation the UK finds itself in now, it can be blamed on 40 years of the EU forcing co-dependence down our throats. As I have often posted on the subject. The UK has been in the grip of the EU parasite for a very long time, it will take time to recover from such an invasive and pernicious infection. Just like a hospital patient recovering from a serious disease, it will take time for the UK to learn to walk unaided again. The covid pandemic will be used by both sides to hide any effects of brexit. For the UK it will show where we need to become more self sufficient. But one area I am sure you are wrong, is in the belief that the new variant of covid is not already endemic in Europe. The mutation may have happened in London, but by now it will be all over the EU.
