Wrong Mrs May agreed a backstop, this was rejected by parliament three times, so the backstop was never proposed by the UK. It was proposed by an unrepresentative europhile prime minister. The proposal was rejected by the UK parliament. Who is to blame the EU, since it was the EU pulling Mrs May's strings.

@jaimecosta2966 and the EU is incapable of taking the blame for anything. Well the UK is going to leave with or without a deal and either way there will not be a backstop.

Boomer Galactica he may not be supported by parliament, but it is yet to be shown if he lacks the support of the people. The idea than banning a no deal Brexit will somehow result in a deal is clearly nonsense. The withdrawal agreement remains unacceptable to the UK parliament. MPs have no mandate to revoke article 50, so any extension to the article 50 process will just result in more wasted months. Much better if the EU deny any further extensions.

Boomer Galactica unfortunately a general election might break the deadlock in parliament,. But lacks the democratic credentials to overturn the referendum result. This is because that a vote in a general election is no where near equivalent to that of a referendum. In a referendum every vote counts equally and the vote is in answer to a single issue question. A vote in a general election fails both these tests. The general election system is designed to allow the first past the post winner to spin the result to mean anything they want. They are free to change the emphasis placed on policies given in their manifesto, ignoring some policies and promoting others. How offer have you heard politicians claim that the reason they lost is because their unpopular policies were rejected for not being sufficiently extreme. The same spin is applied by the winners. Both major parties will offer policy bribes, such as tax cuts, to the electorate to gain votes, but it will be their pet policies, such as remain or leave, that they will claim as the reason for winning. Worse still, the vote of those living in safe seats will not count for anything and will certainly not express any opinion.

Boomer Galactica I think you are right, but a lot has be said about the consequences of leaving the EU, it is important that the consequences of remaining in the EU are also made clear. The EU parasite has backward facing teeth, it is easy to enter its digestive system, almost with out noticing, it is proving far more difficult to escape it.
