@josedourado3747 yep the idea of French space weapons is hilarious.

So the French are going to litter earth orbit with broken French satellites, trapping the human race on a planet dying from the effects of man made pollution. This will just encourage nations like China and Russia to develope more kinetic space weapons to which there is no real defence. If the French intend to develope laser weapon satellites, they will be forced to power them with nuclear energy, that means putting dangerous amounts of radioactive fuel in orbit. There is an old adage which, though not strictly true, is relevant here; "what goes up must come down". The Chinese have already shown they are not bothered by the prospect of creating a metal cage around the earth made of space junk. It would seem the French do not believe in Kessler syndrome.

@jetaddicted are french umbrellas made from armed plate, and do they come with a Geiger Counter and a NBC suit, if not. The french umbrella will not provide must protection.

@josedourado3747 physics is not really your subject is it. Have you not read about high energy laser weapons? These require huge amounts of power to generate an intense laser light to burn up enemy targets. While the vacuum of outer space is an ideal environment to fire a laser beam, with no problems of an energy absorbing and dispersive atmosphere to get in the way, space laser weapons need to be powerful because the satellite targets are designed with reflective surfaces to reflect solar energy. If a laser weapon is used it is likely to generate a lot of space junk from the target which may explode, be vaporised or shed components into open space. Unfortunately for the French, there is not a defence against kinetic weapons, some or which are known as smart rocks.
