The EU is all about symbolism and very little else.

@TheSuperappelflap the UK has been very generous in providing to poorer countries, but it is not up to the EU to decide how much or where our money is spent. It is a myth that what benifits one member state benefits all. That cannot be true without a federal structure with central tax collection and distribution. I see no reason why we should pay to fund our competitors. In many cases, state charity is nothing more than a corrupt slush fund, intended to oil the wheels of trade or re-enforce some political agenda. Many poorer nations have a very skewed distribution of wealth, as for example in India. It seems unfair that outside donations should be used to make up for the lack of charity by their own wealthy or government. Such is the formulaic way charity payments are made, that the UK was providing India with charity support, while its government was pursuing a space program. Even the Indian government found this an embarrassment.

@TheSuperappelflap you really cannot have it both ways. Those europhiles in the EU decide the state of the UK economy based on the argument they want to make. When it comes to paying into the EU funds, the UK economy is portrayed as being dry strong, when it's a matter of denigrating the UK, its economy is stated as being very weak. You are clearly one of those who believe in the EU myth, even though it will not stand up to any logical analysis. The myth is usually most strongly professed, but not believed, by those who are in member states on the receiving end of any benefit, while those in donating states reluctantly and begrudgingly are forced to believe it, or accept they are being taken for fools.

@TheSuperappelflap they have more money to spend because you gave it to them. The EU binds member states together using long transport supply routes, really bad for the economy. It cannot be good for your industries, if they are competing with those in the states you are subsidising.

@TheSuperappelflap It is not in the interest of industry to eliminate the poorer regions, either the current ones continue to be poor or the EU expands to gain new ones. Either way, there is little prospect of the payments stopping.
