@cheydinal5401 don't you mean the number 1 of 27. All are equal, it's just some are more equal than others.

Not king, emperor.

@cheydinal5401 the alternative is the EU super state with Juncker or his ilk as head of government. The EU needs to go back to being a common market of cooperating independent sovereign states. The EU leaders are becoming increasingly subservient to the eurocrats they once regarded as civil servants. He structure can never work as it has too many masters, or at least too many who want to be master. Macron wants to be the next emperor Napoleon, unfortunately the French economy cannot support his ambitions, so he want Germany to fund his quest for an EU empire.

The danger is that you remove the nation state completely from the equation. Once that happens, you have a super state made up of regions. In UK terms, it reduces nation state governments to nothing more than local councils. Here is a trick used by the EU which is the tyranny of the majority. Basically anything can be done to a minority for the good of the majority. The good of the many outweighs the good of the few. Given an organisation of sufficient size, it is always possible to define a majority to oppress a minority. Let's consider a practical but extreme example; suppose the EU adopts nuclear power as it's main source of energy. A whole country could be sacrificed as a nuclear waste dump. Nation states do the same thing, but the regions involved are very much smaller. In the UK my vote is one in 60 million. In the EU it is diluted by 360 million.

@cheydinal5401 taking your last point first, you mean the way Germany always gets its way in the EU. I am arguing that a collection of cooperating independent sovereign nation state is more stable than one super state made up of regions. The EU democratic credentials are made worse by the prospect of majority voting to stream line decision making. The concept of self sufficient nation states is anti globalist. It does away with the move to interdependent global trade. Trade that has accelerated damage to the global environment, made a few in a global elite super rich, thus increasing the wealth gap between the super rich and the rest. Eroded the resilience of the human population to withstand natural disasters. Everything about the EU "project" is bad. The EU seeks to bind the member states together by making them codependent on each other, encaperable of standing alone. This produces Europe wide supply chains that are bad for he environment and bad for the stability of the system. The idea of standing together as one creates strength is an illusion. Compare a single tree to a field of grass. If the tree falls life its life is extinguished. If a grass plant dies, there are more to take its place. Resilience is contained in diversity, not in the mono culture the EU is trying to engineer.

I think there is a Freudian slip in your post. The EU needs its own army to defeat its citizens?? One might suspect that one function of the EU army will be to suppress any opposition to the federal government. The Spanish government has shown the way.
