  1. As for the recycling being a scam. The mantra has been "Reduce, Re-use, Recycle" for some time now. If you go to a rural trash transfer site, salvaging is forbidden, and they even have staff there to enforce it. So the result is that if someone drops off something like a lawn mower or old bicycle that they no longer want, and another person might want to take it because they could repair it and put it back into use, it's illegal. It would have reduced waste filling the landfill, and re-used and recycled items, but it's illegal.
