I am a bit confused how you are defining public companies as "states in and of themselves." To me, a state has a government that can pass laws, levy taxes, and use force to enforce those. If I am a part owner of the corporation (shares), then I can sell and leave. If I am an employee, I can leave my position. The state government can compel me to comply with their wishes, but the corporation does not have the power to force me to buy their products, for example. I think that guy who was saying you were wrong really lost it when he went after families being socialist, but then all along he didn't want to get into the weeds, especially he didn't seem to want to quote any sources to back up his position.
