This surprises me to know that this is new to you. Perhaps we have different backgrounds that made me see more of this when I first read Mein Kampf many years ago. You have dug up some good stuff (again!) that has really increased my understanding. Milton Friedman made a good point in a speech which is available on youtube. He contrasted Hitler and Mussolini, saying that Hitler believed what he was saying. You doulc be fine with Mussolini because you could just buy him off, or if you leave him alone he will leave you alone. Friedman understood the distinction because he had read history, so he wasn't just following the popular madman theory that puts the two dictators in the same basket.
