We should write petition to automakers to let this known to them. They think EV drivers all want computer on wheels.

I think EV hype has peaked, as many more people experience this kind of inconvinience. Not to mention trying to charge outside in Canadian winter. After a few hours, or worse overnight, charge plug gets frozen shut to the car, unable to unplug. There is no heat source nearby you can't even attempt to thaw it either. It is complete rubbish.

@RyanWilliams222 Just use a propane heater in your EV instead of wasting batteries for heating. Batteries should be used for kenetics, not thermo-generation. Nothing wrong with burning fuel for heat in winter. Just be realistic and don't get all wrapped up in environmentalism.
1
@RyanWilliams222 it depends on your usage and location. If you are in northern Canada and have to wait to pickup someone and not moving, but still have to keep car warm. Yes burning fuel can be more environmentally friendly. Also if your electricity comes from coal or natural gas plants then it is even more so. By the time it gets into you car you already lost 50© of energy due to transmission and generation. The waste heat is simply wasted into environment and should be ideally used to warm inside you car. In that sense a propane heater would be vault vastly less emission then resistive heating element in your EV. Sure you can better that with biofuel and ethanol. It adds complexity and cost.. And more importantly most people into EVs don't think holistically and only care about zero emission at their vehicle level

@RyanWilliams222 yeah it's true there are too few of us living in the North to warrant big EV makers to integrate some kind of fuel based heater system even as an option. I recently read a piece about electric school bus in Alaska can't keep kids warm enough during harsh winter. The driver has to choose between being able to complete his trip or keeping inside the bus comfortably warm. Imagine what happens if it ever breaks down or get stuck in bad snow storm. I definitely think it needs some kind of fuel based heater even just add a safety precaution. These days people only focus on efficiency but redundancy is sometimes needed.

@michaelc2254 all these obsession about efficiency is fool's errand.

All the Western EV startups are scams for angel investor money. Chinese EV companies actually make production cars, not just prototypes and presentations to scam investor money.

So glad the door handles are not flush like all the other Tesla copycats.
1
The problem with all these EVs are copy cat Tesla, not the electric drivetrain part, but all the high tech gimmicks and flush door handles. Why does all EVs have to have high tech controls with complicated touchscreen menus? Why do you have to have a software engineering degree just to drive a car? It does not help adoption for certain segments of population. There needs to be simple EVs without all the high tech gimmicks.
1
May I add the ride of Bolt is much more comfortable than overrated Tesla model 3, and does not force you to use one pedal mode, and when you press on brake it still does regen. Tesla cheaped out on regen on braking.
1
So EVs are not the future after all?
1
The problem is MB EQ series is it's trying to copy Tesla too much. It lacks guts and authenticity
1
Putting electric drive trains on heavy vehicles is very inefficient due to low energy density of current battery tech. A lot more kWh have to be used to just carry its huge battery pack.
1
The panel gap on the door looks like it had an accident.

Unfortunately, this car will depreciate even harder than gas powered Rolls Royce. In 12 years, instead of depreciate by 80%, of gas powered once, the EV version will depreciate 100% because that's the lifespan of battery pack.
1
@kensmith5694 All Rolls Royce depreciated badly historically. In 12 years, gas RR will be worth 20%, but electric ones will literally be 0, because it won't even drive without replacing the whole battery pack.

Too bad we don't get any Chinese EVs like funky cat, Nio, MG5 like they do in Europe and Australia. They are better than any of these over priced Korean and Ford crap.
1
I appreciate the physical buttons. And not computer on wheels
1
Why would you make such unreliable car your daily drive? How do you manage in heavy rain or snow? I guess Tesla only makes cars for people in California
1
@user-RCST im referring to usage here in Canada where more than half the year the ground is covered in 5-10 inches of snow. That's why I've been waiting for cybertruck which is getting ever more elusive. . even when it comes out the price will be far higher than originally promised
1
The mall / store owners have no incentive to maintain the chargers. Government should come up with a standard for this.
1
Again all these aerodynamic efficiency means nothing if you are stuck in traffic in a cold day having to run heater on high
1
Chinese EVs are kicking ass. Shane on America protectionism.
1
Fantastic. I wish they made a production EV with handbrakes and without stuck on tablet.
